Wine Of The Week – Castel Del Monte – Tomaresca Trentangeli

Castel del Monte is a DOC of the Puglia wine region in south-eastern Italy. Its specialty is red wines (although a tiny amount of white and rosé are also produced) made from Uva di Troia complemented by Aglianico and occasionally Bombino Nero. A small quantity of white Castel del Monte is also produced each year, mostly from Bombino Bianco, Chardonnay and the little-known Pampanuto.

Antinori established Tormaresca in the Puglia region of southern Italy in 1998 and from the estate’s two vineyards, Bocca di Lupo and Masseria Maime, they’ve been producing outstanding wines for more than a decade. They use grapes indigenous to Southern Italy, like this Aglianico as well as blending international varietals. The Castel Del Monte is a unique blend  Aglianico,  Cabernet, and  Syrah. The wine was aged  in French and Hungarian oak barrels followed by 9 months of bottle age.
