Wine Of The Week – Marsanne Tahbilk, Australia

MARSANNE - TAHBILK - the wine detective

Marsanne for the wine explorer

Established in 1860, Tahbilk is one of Australia’s most beautiful and historical wineries, located in the Nagambie Lakes region of Central Victoria and one of the region’s premium viticultural areas. The vineyard comprises 200 hectares of vines including the French Rhone Valley whites of Marsanne, Viognier and Roussanne; the Rhone reds – Shiraz, Grenache and Mourvedre as well as traditional varieties.Tahbilk is further blessed with an abundance of “old vine” plantings including Shiraz from 1860, Cabernet Sauvignon from 1949 and Marsanne from 192.

Marsanne has a few things in common with Semillon: fragrant and lively in its youth. This wine offers crisp acidity, honeysuckle aromas and flavours, with citrus fruit, spice with a delightful edge of minerality.
