Wine Of The Week

nero d'avola cusumano wineNero d’Avola IGT – Cusumano – Sicily – Itlay

I find that in general the wines of Sicily are an awesome group of wines for people who love something different. The warm climate ensures fruity, full, higher alcohol wines, and that’s a winning bet for good quality wines. The Cusumano average age of the vines is fourteen years. The wine has gone through malolactic fermentation in stainless steel, and a period in contact with the lees for at least five months. This Nero d’Avola is medium to full-bodied and dry style. Slightly earthy with good ripe berry fruit, and mocha flavours. Pair with roast beef or lamb.

Meet the grape

Originally from a small town called Avola in south east Sicily, this black (nero means black) grape is so under the radar. This highly respected grape is also called Calabrese, and it grows superbly in Sicily. It is also a super blending grape with the ability to age and gives firm structure. Merlot makes a great partner and produces fine and elegant wine.
