Wine Of The Week

Santa Julia Bonarda 2013, Mendoza – Argentina

This a good entry level Bonarda wine. Santa Julia Bodegas is owned by Familia Zuccardi, a reputable winery. This reserva wine has deep colour with an attractive nose. It offers plums and blackberries flavours with a soft and medium finish. Good tannins. It pairs particularly well with grilled meats.

Bonarda grape

Bonarda is not one but three Italian grapes, and all different from the grape called Bonarda in Argentina. It is the second most planted red variety in Argentina, and one of the most traditional ones. It is characterized by its depth of color. Due to its density, vigor and low cost, it has always been a good blending grape, though it is also vinified as a single varietal. It produces simple, frank, and honest wines with good body and color, and fruity raspberry aroma and subtle aniseed flavour.
